WASHINGTON _ The House Judiciary Committee will hold its first impeachment hearing Dec. 4 focused on defining impeachment for House members who will be tasked with deciding whether to bring articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.
In a letter to Trump, Judiciary Committee chairman Jerrold Nadler invited the president and his counsel to participate, giving him a Dec. 1 deadline to respond. The president may not even be in the country to attend. Trump is scheduled to attend the NATO Summit in London, which ends the afternoon of Dec. 4.
"We expect to discuss the constitutional framework through which the House may analyze the evidence gathered in the present inquiry. We will also discuss whether your alleged actions warrant the House's exercising its authority to adopt articles of impeachment," Nadler, D-N.Y., said in the letter.
So far, Trump and the White House have refused to participate in the impeachment inquiry, blocking more than a dozen high-ranking federal officials from testifying or providing documents.
