Frustrated House Republicans said Friday they want James Comey back on Capitol Hill.
The invite came as the former FBI director declined to answer questions about a range of issues during a controversial closed-door session, Republicans said.
GOP lawmakers grilled Comey _ a final move before ceding power to Democrats in January _ and were left vexed by the ex-lawman as he declined to answer questions and cited the ongoing special counsel probe into Russian election meddling. Last May, President Donald Trump fired Comey, who at the time was leading the investigation into whether the president's 2016 campaign had coordinated with Russia to interfere in the 2016 election.
Comey wasn't pleased with the line of questioning.
"We're talking about Hillary Clinton's emails, for heaven's sake, so I'm not sure we needed to do this at all," he said.
Democrats said there was no reason for Comey to come back and complained Judiciary Committee Republicans' questions were merely distractions from the ongoing investigation.
Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., slated to be the chairman of the Judiciary committee when Congress reconvenes next month, called the questioning of Comey a "fishing expedition."
A transcript of the interview, which Comey said "will bore you," is slated to be released Saturday.
