A home has been destroyed by fire in the Hunter overnight, with the occupants managing to escape before fire crews arrived.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews were alerted just after 4.15am on Thursday, July 23, to reports of a fire on Woodberry Road at Millers Forest, north west of Newcastle.
Firefighters were initially told a fire had erupted inside a room and all people inside had safely made their way out.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said crews arrived to find a wooden house "fully involved" in flames.
They immediately got to work, putting in place a defensive strategy as the fire was too fierce for them to be able to gain internal access at that time.
Four Fire and Rescue NSW trucks, a duty commander, and NSW Rural Fire Service resources were part of the response.
Crews remained at the scene about 8.30am as the operation continued to unfold, though the fire was under control by that time.
It is believed the house was destroyed by fire and could be smouldering for several hours.
