A 57-year-old woman died as a result of injuries she received in a house fire Wednesday in Lawndale.

About 1:15 a.m., authorities responded to a single family home in the 1400 block of South Rockwell Street, after reports of the residence being in flames, Chicago police said.

Carmencita Vega was pulled from the home and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. She was listed as being in critical condition but later died.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine her official cause of death.

The origins of the fire remain unknown, police said. There were no other injuries.
