House fire in Montpelier started with pan of oil on the hob

Fire crews were called to a house fire in the Montpelier area of Bristol last night.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service was called to the fire on Ashley Road at 6.10pm (Thursday, March 25).

It is believed the fire started with a pan of oil on the hob, with crews from Hicks Gate and Avonmouth being called to the scene.

In a statement, the fire service said: "We were called at 6.10pm to a fire in Montpelier, Bristol.

"Crews from Hicks Gate and Avonmouth attended.

"Two firefighters in BA went in with a high pressure hose reel, one 45mm covering jet to extinguish the fire.

"It was thought the fire started with a pan of oil on the hob."

Hicks Gate fire station also tweeted about the incident, saying people should never use water to attempt to extinguish a burning pan of oil on fire.

It added that, in this incident, that gas and electrics were isolated by the crews.
