House fire in Cumbernauld as crews battle blaze and police close street

Emergency services are battling a house fire in Cumbernauld.

Fire crews were called to a property on Glen Fyne Road at 6am on Tuesday morning. Six fire appliances and an aerial height appliance are in attendance trying to extinguish the flames.

It's unknown at this moment whether anyone has been injured. Police have said that the road is currently closed off to access and have advised the public to stay away from the area.

Pictures from the scene show emergency services outside a burnt out semi-detached property in the quiet street. The roof of the house has been extensively damaged by the blaze.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.05am on Friday, July 1 to reports of a house fire. Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances and an aerial height appliance to Glen Fyne Road in Cumbernauld.

"The fire has been contained and is presently being extinguished.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 6.25am on Friday, 1 July, to a report of a house fire in Glen Fyne Road, Cumbernauld.

"Emergency services are in attendance and the road is currently closed and people are advised to avoid the area for the time being.”
