House fire near Bristol leaves woman with life-threatening injuries

Police have launched an investigation after a fire in Yatton left a woman with life threatening injuries.

A woman in her 50s was taken to hospital following the fire at a property at Stowey Road at around 10.15pm on Friday (August 7).

Specialist fire and crime scene investigators have examined the scene and officers have been carrying out house to house enquiries in the area.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

A police spokesman said: “We’re investigating after a fire at a property on Stowey Road in Yatton on Friday.

“A woman in her 50s was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries following the incident which happened at approximately 10.15pm.

“Enquiries to establish how the fire started and how the woman sustained her injuries are ongoing but, at this stage, the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

“As part of inquiry specialist fire and crime scene investigators have examined the scene while officers have also carried out house to house enquiries.”

Crews from Yatton, Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare were called to tackle the blaze.

A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue said: "Crews from Yatton, Clevedon and Weston-Super-Mare fire stations were mobilised to reports of a residential fire on Stowey Road, Yatton at 22:04pm.

"On arrival,firefighters found a fire in the first floor of a residential flat.

"Firefighters used six breathing apparatus for safety, and two high pressure hose reels and positive pressure attack to control and extinguish the fire.

"Firefighters rescued one female casualty from the property before handing over to ambulance crews.

"Crews remained at the scene following the incident to deliver fire safety advice toneighbouring properties.

"The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. "
