A house has been set on fire seemingly after it was struck by lightning.
Shortly before 8pm this evening a thunderstorm started raging above Plymouth in Devon.
Emergency services were called to a home in the Crownhill area of the city following reports that it was ablaze, the Plymouth Herald reported.
When they arrived they found the property well alight having apparently been hit by a lightning bolt.
Fire fighters equipped with six appliances including an aerial ladder platform were deployed to fight the flames.
The emergency service workers were spotted entering the property equipped with head torches.
Smoke could be seen billowing out of the roof of the home as flames ripped through the property.
The road has been closed off while the blaze it dealt with.
By 9pm the worst of the fire appeared to have been put out.
Devon and Cornwall Police has confirmed that a lightning strike had been recorded in the area.
No more thunder or lightning is forecast for the city tonight, with spells of drizzles likely to be the most eventful weather event.
