WASHINGTON _ Democratic leaders in the House agreed to delay congressional elections until Nov. 30, dealing a blow to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who hoped to hold them Thursday.
But members stopped short on calling for new leadership publicly. Rep. G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C. said the delay will help Democrats evaluate the "shellacking" they received in last Tuesday's election.
Pelosi told reporters after leaving the caucus meeting Tuesday she did not believe the new election date had an impact on how members perceive her leadership.
So far, only Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, has expressed an interest in running against Pelosi but has not made that decision official.
