House boarded up by police and residents banned from returning

A house in St Helens was tinned up by police after being blighted by anti-social behaviour.

Officers from Merseyside Police attended Liverpool Magistrates Court on Monday, December 21, where they fought for a full closure of 21 Freemantle Avenue.

Police said the order comes after "countless amounts of anti-social behaviour" at the address and officers were successful in their application which will see the house closed for three months.

Closures such as this are designed to deter nightmare tenants from returning and allow communities to settle down and return to normal, while the people responsible for causing trouble have to find somewhere else to live.

No one is allowed to come and go from the property while the order remains in place and anyone who attempts to do so will be committing an offence.

In a statement on Monday, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Tonight, officers attended alongside landlords Torus housing.

"The house has now been secured and the keys will remain in the possession of Merseyside Police for the foreseeable future.

"No persons will be allowed to come and go from the property and will commit an offence if they attempt to do so.

"Hopefully this will now bring some peace for the local residents."
