House and parkland cordoned off after man blasted with shotgun

A man was blasted in the leg with a shotgun near a busy main road near Seaforth.

Officers were on patrol on Crosby Road South at around 10.45pm yesterday (Saturday) when they heard a loud bang and saw a man running away.

A 38 year-old man was found nearby with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to hospital for treatment for his injury which is not believed to be life threatening.

A 27 year-old man was detained on suspicion of wounding and possession of a firearm.

He is currently in custody where he will be questioned by detectives.

An investigation is underway to establish what has taken place and house-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries are being carried out in the Seaforth /Waterloo area.

Police vehicles, including a Matrix van, were parked outside a property in Crosby Road South today (Sunday), while an area of parkland opposite was also cordoned off.

DCI Ian Hussey said: "Enquiries into this incident and the circumstances leading up to it remain ongoing.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Crosby Road South who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact us as they may have information which is vital to our investigation."
