Hour-by-hour weather forecast for Mansfield as snow sets in second 'Beast from the East'

Residents across Mansfield and Ashfield are being urged to expect disruption with snowfall forecast all day on Monday (February 8).

The Met Office has issued an amber warning for snow throughout Nottinghamshire today, predicting travel delays, potential power cuts and cancellations of transport services.

Temperatures are not forecast to go above -1C throughout the day, with snow predicted to fall through until Tuesday (February 9).

However, the forecast predicts, temperatures will feel much colder due to high north-easterly winds, feeling no higher than -6C and as low as -8C at times.

In its amber warning, the forecaster said: "Frequent heavy snow showers will lead to some travel disruption today.

"Some delays and cancellations to rail and air travel are likely.

"Power cuts are likely and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected."

The snowfall comes as Storm Darcy hits Britain's shores, being dubbed the second 'Beast from the East' weather cycle.

The first 'Beast from the East' came in 2018 when a cold wave of weather arrived in Britain and brought freezing temperature, heavy snowfall and disruption to large areas.

In its weather forecast for Mansfield and Nottinghamshire, The Met Office predicts wintry showers and snow "to all levels".

It said: "Wintry showers throughout today, these giving snow accumulations to all levels.

"Feeling very cold in the strong northeasterly winds. Temperatures will struggle to reach above freezing.

"Further snow showers will move west across the region [tonight] on a moderate easterly breeze, with accumulations to all levels.

"Feeling very cold overnight with a hard frost and icy conditions."
