Parts of the North East have woken up to a blanket of snow as the Met Office predicts the cold weather is set to continue.
The region was issued with a yellow weather warning predicting "snow and hail showers" leading to icy surfaces. The cold weather is expected to bring travel disruptions during rush hour on Thursday morning as commuters are warned of icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
The warning states that the cold weather could result in longer journey times for commuters, as the ice warning is in place until 10am. The Met Office has forecast the wintry showers are set to continue throughout the day.

The weather forecast on the website states: "Blustery wintry showers continue, most frequent along the coast with hail, sleet and further brief snow in places. Feeling cold with a chill wind, but some good bright spells. Maximum temperature 5 °C."
And for tonight, icy patches and frost will are expected to develop in parts of the region. Tonight's forecast states: "Occasional showers continuing through the night. Showers remaining wintery although any snow accumulations mainly limited to hills. Cold with icy patches and frost developing in places. Minimum temperature 0 °C."
