Hour-by-hour Leeds weather forecast as strong winds and heavy rain batter city

Strong winds and heavy rains are expected in Leeds as a result of a yellow weather warning that is currently in place.

The Met Office who issued the warning for strong winds stated it will be in place until 3pm today (Thursday).

Winds with speeds of up to 50-55 mph are expected inland across England and Wales, and the forecasters said disruption and delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely, and that some short-term loss of power and other services is possible.

This morning, Northern Rail tweeted that services various services between Leeds, Preston and Manchester Victoria had been affected by the weather.

They said: “Services from Leeds to Manchester Victoria and from Leeds to Preston are being disrupted due to flooding between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden.”

The flooding caused the line between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden to close but it has since reopened.

So what's the weather in Leeds like for the rest of the day?

A statement on the Met Office website reads: "A chilly and windy day, with early morning rain clearing to sunny spells and occasional showers. These will turn heavy in the afternoon with a risk of hail, and perhaps some snow over the Pennines and Cheviot hills. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

“Showers easing across eastern parts this evening, allowing prolonged clear spells to develop, but a few will continue to affect western parts overnight. Still rather windy, particularly over high ground. Minimum temperature 3 °C.”
