The North East looks set for more mixed springtime weather today with sunny spells and heavy showers forecast.
According to the Met Office, the region looks set for another day of mixed conditions with some pleasant sunshine as the day progresses with this making way for heavy showers and even some hail. The North East will experience mild highs of 17 °C with it likely to feel warm during the day's sunnier spells.
This is likely to be the most extreme day weather-wise in a past week which has been characterised by similar weather with some bright spells and mild conditions.

According to the Met Office, you should expect the following conditions over the course of today: "Early cloud and outbreaks of rain will clear away south-eastwards to leave a brighter afternoon, with some sunny spells. However, some heavy showers breaking out, possibly heavy and thundery, with hail.
"Feeling warm in the sunshine, with light winds. Maximum temperature 17 °C."
Over the course of the evening, the wet conditions are likely to fade with fog even forming in some areas before morning. Despite this, temperatures are expected to fall to a chilly 3 °C in the evening.
The leading meteorologists have forecast the following conditions for this evening: "Daytime showers soon fading to leave a dry night, with clear spells for many. Chance of some fog patches forming in places by dawn. Colder than last night. Minimum temperature 3 °C."
