Hour by hour forecast as yellow weather warning predicts snow and ice next week

A weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for parts of the North East next week as the wintry weather is set to continue.

The Met Office has issued the warning for snow and ice between 9pm on Monday and 11.45pm on Wednesday.

The warning predicted parts of the region including Tyneside, Wearside, County Durham and parts of Northumberland would see snow, with a risk of "widespread ice".

It states: "Snow, with a risk of widespread ice, is likely to push slowly northeast from late Monday, bringing difficult travel conditions."

As rain on Monday night comes into contact with cold air, it is likely to turn to snow. Around 1-4cm of snow is quite likely inland, with 5-10cm possible above 150m.
