Hour-by-hour forecast as thunderstorms hit the North East

Severe thunderstorms have hit the North East on Monday.

Heavy rain, hailstones, thunder and lightning have all made an appearance across the region after a sunny and pleasant start to the day.

Showers and thunderstorms are set to die down by this evening but it will turn quite chilly as the unseasonable weather continues.

The Met Office also predicts showers "merging into longer spells of rain" on Tuesday with a chance of thunder again.

However, temperatures are set to be around 16 °C.
