Hour by hour forecast as North East looks set for wet conditions with cloud and showers likely

The North East is set for a day of cloud and rain following a weekend of pleasant weather.

Leading meteorologists, the Met Office have forecast wet conditions for the region throughout today. Despite mild spring temperatures being likely, drier spells are likely to be limited to the afternoon in the North East.

The Met Office have forecast the following conditions for today: "A dry start this morning, though rather cloudy. An area of rain, occasionally heavy, will push northwards later this morning and early afternoon."

"Some drier spells possible this afternoon, but staying rather cloudy with light winds. Cool. Maximum temperature 12 °C."

Over the course of the evening, similar conditions are likely to remain with cloud and rain being forecast by the Met Office: " Remaining cloudy with outbreaks of rain or showers this evening. Rain gradually easing overnight, becoming confined to the Pennines.

"Drier in the east with some clear spells developing. Minimum temperature 4 °C."

14:00, 8°, Heavy rain, Rain: 80%

15:00, 8°, Heavy rain, Rain: 80%
