Hotel vows to recreate Galway Races atmosphere for punters as festival set to go ahead behind closed doors

A hotel has vowed to give Galway Races punters, who are missing out on the behind closed doors action this year, the best possible beachside alternative.

The popular summer festival usually attracts 150,000 racegoers, but the Covid-19 pandemic has seen the week-long event shelved for spectators.

Dan Murphy, the managing director of the Galway bay Hotel said “Not only are we delighted to be open again, but we cannot wait for race week.

“For all our guests staying with us, we are bringing the spirit of the Galway Races to the Galway Bay Hotel.

“The big difference is you can enjoy the fun and festivities overlooking the promenade and beach.”

The hotel is also offering a special ‘Ladies Day Afternoon Tea’ which includes unlimited complimentary prosecco and savoury treats on Thursday, July 30.

Everyone who turns up in their finery can enter Galway Bay Hotel’s ‘Best Dressed Competition’ with a prize of a two-night stay in the Hyatt Centric Hotel, Dublin for the winner.

Meanwhile, families have an opportunity to get in on the racing fun on Sunday, August 2 with the ‘Mad Hatters’ competition for kids.
