Hotel staff left shaken after attempted robbery in Belfast city centre

Staff have been left "shaken" after a man entered a hotel in Belfast city centre and demanded cash on Saturday morning.

Police are investigating an attempted robbery in the Waring Street area of the city on October 2 and have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection to the incident.

The suspect left the scene empty-handed and currently remains in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Fairfield said: “Police received a report at around 8.30am that a man had entered a hotel in the area, approached staff and demanded cash. He subsequently made off empty-handed, leaving members of staff shaken.

“We have arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of attempted robbery. He remains in custody at this time.

“The arrest is in keeping with our continued commitment to safeguard members of the public.

“Our enquiries are continuing, and I would appeal to anyone with information to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 427 of 02/10/21.”

Update, October 5: 09.20am: PSNI "A 37-year-old man arrested by detectives investigating an attempted robbery in the Waring Street area of Belfast on Saturday morning, 2 October, has been released on police bail pending further enquiries."
