Hotel plan comes forward for rundown city centre site

A man is seeking planning permission in principle to knock down a dilapidated building in the middle of Perth and build a new hotel in its place.

Tarek Fayez of London-based Urban Plan Consultants has applied for consent to demolish 10-12 South Methven Street and create a new four-storey structure on the same site potentially containing as many as nine rooms per floor.

The existing building latterly housed the old Clachan Bar on its ground floor and was added to Historic Environment Scotland’s register of buildings believed to be at risk of falling into a serious state of disrepair back in 2012.

It’s known Future Property Auctions attempted to sell the property for at least £85,000 during an online auction held in November last year but it’s understood it wasn’t sold at that auction.

According to the Buildings At Risk Register of Scotland the same auctioneers attempted to sell the property for as much as £195,000 just two years ago.

Mr Farez’s application for in principle consent to demolish the building awaits comment from a number of departments within Perth and Kinross Council.

Around 30 neighbours have also been notified of the application and been invited to comment on it according to the local authority’s planning website.
