Hotel owner offers Will Ferrell free Eurovision room on one condition

A hotel owner has offered Will Ferrell free accommodation for Eurovision on one condition.

Kirkdale's The Phoenix Hotel, owned by James Winters and Rob Edwards, is set to open a new venue called The Phoenix Pods on Vauxhall Road. The new venue is just minutes away from the M&S Bank Arena, which will host the song contest in May next year.

James has offered Will a free room. However, the actor, best known for his roles in 'Anchorman' and 'Elf', will have to give back to Merseyside if he wants to take up the offer.

Will appeared on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 on Tuesday (November 15) and shared his interest in coming to Liverpool to watch Eurovision next year. Zoe spoke to Will about his role in the 2020 Netflix film 'Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga' and that led onto a discussion about next year's song contest.

Zoe asked Will if he planned to attend and he said : “You know my mother really wants me to take her to Eurovision, she’s dying to go and she’s always wanted to go to Liverpool. He added: “But aren’t the hotels all booked now?”

A lack of hotel availability led Will to appeal for help from people in and around Liverpool. He said: " We need a clean, tidy room. We’ll share a room - two bunk beds that’s all we need. I know we’re kidding but my mom would love that, she’d be thrilled."

He could find himself with accommodation at the Phoenix Pods. But he will have to join James' ongoing fundraising efforts.

James is chairman of the SMILE (Support Mission in Liverpool Education) Project. He is currently running 5km a day for 100 days to raise £10,000 for disadvantaged children this Christmas.

Last year, the entrepreneur, who also owns electrical engineering firm M-Tech, chauffeured disadvantaged families to The Phoenix Hotel, giving them a free overnight stay with food and a special visit with gifts from Father Christmas.

Making the offer to Will, James said: "Will Ferrell and his mum would be more than welcome to stay at The Phoenix Pods. I'll even pick them up from the airport and take them into town for Eurovision!

"But this is Liverpool, where we all help each other out, as I'm sure Will would understand.

"For a free stay, I'd like Will to run 5km with me around my hometown of Bootle, handing out food hampers and vital supplies to families in need. It would be amazing to see the joy Will would bring to Liverpool if he is up for the challenge!"

James Winters is raising £10,000 for children in poverty this Christmas by running 5km a day for 100 days. You can donate to the cause HERE.
