Hotel offers room with 'white tiger view' where guests sleep beside predator's den

A hotel in China has a " tiger view " room where guests can sleep right next to the predator's den.

The terrifying suite was built in the Sendi Tribe Treehouse Hotel in Nantong City in China's Jiangsu province.

Video taken on January 18 shows the room, with a bed facing out towards the tiger's enclosure which is behind a glass barrier.

A massive white tiger can be seen prowling from behind the transparent divider.

Hotel staff said the room was newly renovated and has not yet been used. They added there are protective measures involved and the glass wall was made of explosion-proof material to guarantee the customers' safety.

The local culture and tourism bureau said the hotel is compliant with safety standards and regulations, but the tiger viewing room has not been opened yet.

But earlier this week the Chinese Government ordered the room be closed off after concerns were raised about animal welfare.

The hotel lies next to one of the largest zoos in eastern China which is home to almost 20,000 wild creatures, the MailOnline reports.

The Times reported that state media said tigers can be alarmed by people close to the glass.

The Beijing News added that while guests are protected by the explosion-proof divider, the conditions of the tigers have not been taken into account.

The newspaper, which is owned by the Chinese Communist Party, called for checks to see if the panel was soundproof - which would ensure the welfare of the creatures.

The news outlet added that one-way glass could reduce disturbances.

Guests at the Nantong City hotel can already book into a room with views of other animals, like giraffes, lions and zebras.

Local media outlets have suggested the hotel is using the gimmick ahead of the Chinese New Year on February 1, when the year of the tiger starts.

Other hotels in the country have trialled similar views in recent years.

In 2021, a hotel in China's northeastern state of Harbin opened a suite with views of polar bears.

Through similar windows, guests can view the bears all day.
