Hotel 'machete attack' leaves three in hospital as police urge public to 'stay calm'

A fight reportedly kicked off between two families at a Blackpool hotel with claims of groups of men wielding machetes.

The public has been urged to remain calm after three people were left in hospital following the fight at the Doric Hotel in Queens Promenade around 11.15pm on Sunday.

A group of approximately seven men, reportedly armed with weapons including machetes, attacked another group of men before fleeing the scene, LancsLive reports.

It is understood the terrifying violence erupted between two families in the hotel bar.

Lancashire Police and North West Ambulance Service crews rushed to the hotel and three people were taken to hospital, where two remained this evening.

Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

No arrests have been made but Lancashire Police is urging people to remain calm and have reassured the public that they believe there is no threat to the wider community.

A spokesperson from Lancashire Police said: "Three people were taken to hospital for treatment.

"One of them has since been discharged while two remain in hospital but are not thought to be suffering life-threatening injuries.

"No arrests have been made as yet but our enquiries are very much ongoing.

"At this point we believe all parties involved are known to each other and there is no wider threat to the public."

Any witnesses should call police on 101, quoting log 1614 of July 6.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We attended an incident on Queen’s Promenade, Blackpool after 11pm last night.

"We sent three ambulances and a rapid response vehicle to scene and took three patients to hospital."
