Hotel guest sparks debate after criticising family wearing pyjamas at breakfast

A woman has split opinions by condemning a family for coming down to a hotel breakfast in their pyjamas.

The customer was left with a bad taste in the mouth at breakfast when a set of parents and children appeared in their night clothes.

"A family all came down to breakfast wearing their pyjamas, looking like they had all jumped out of bed," the appalled woman wrote on Mumsnet.

"It was 9am so they still had time to shower and dress before breakfast finished. Am I being unreasonable to think this is not appropriate?"

While the online comments section was fairly split about whether or not this was acceptable behaviour, those with opinions held them very strongly.

"This would completely physically repulse me and I wouldn't be able to eat breakfast," one person wrote. "Not sure why I'd have such a strong reaction but it seems so manky to me."

Another suggested the hotel staff should've stepped in to stop the bad behaviour.

"I have never seen that and I would definitely assume the staff would send them back to put clothes on," they said.

"I’m guessing it’s the same type of people who do school drop-offs and supermarket shopping in pyjamas who would do it, and they generally don’t react well to criticism."

Another added: "I do feel weird when I see this. Even when it’s kids. It’s like they think the hotel is one big family home when it isn’t."

There were others who were quicker to embrace individualism and people's rights to dress how they want.

"I couldn't care less. Perhaps they prefer to get showers after breakfast," one person wrote.

Another said: "I think it would be great if this was a thing."
