Hotel guest leaves 'comedy gold' Tripadvisor review

A guest at Liverpool's Adelphi hotel has shared an online review to Tripadvisor where they claimed their stay was 'comedy gold'.

The reviewer said they had to step over "drunk people" sleeping on the stairs of the hotel - which is part of the Britannia chain that has a cluster of hotels in and around Manchester.

The guest said that they also had to avoid "laughing gas canisters" on their way down to breakfast, reports the ECHO.

They did offer some praise for the famous hotel too, stating their room was clean and had an 'old grandeur.'

The review read: "If you like having breakfast with wedding guests who haven’t gone to bed then this is the place for you.

"Room clean and clearly old grandeur. The noise was ok. Best bit is stepping out of your room for breakfast avoiding the laughing gas canisters and the drunks on the stairs who you have to step over."

The guest posted photographs that showed a man asleep on a staircase, which appeared to be inside the hotel. There was also a photograph of a canister of what appeared to be nitrous oxide, which is known as laughing gas.

The review titled 'comedy gold' was posted two days ago, according to Tripadvisor.

The MEN has approached Britannia Hotels for comment.

Built in 1914, the Adelphi is a world-famous landmark that was once associated with luxury, but has been associated with customer complaints over recent years.

The hotel recently submitted an application to sell alcohol to guests 24 hours a day.

The review comes after the Britannia Hotel chain, headquartered in Hale, was ranked the worst in the UK for the eighth year by consumer organisation Which? in December.
