Hotel, flats and restaurants could be built on former Yorkshire Post site in Leeds city centre

Bold plans have been unveiled to transform the former Yorkshire Post site into a cluster of high-rise developments including a new hotel and two huge apartment blocks of up to 23 storeys.

The offices in Leeds city centre were vacated in 2013 and demolished a year later, with the Yorkshire Post currently housed in the No1 Whitehall Riverside building on Whitehall Road.

All that remains of the former concrete office block is the iconic Yorkshire Post tower, which currently sits in the middle of the empty site on Wellington Street.

However, that could all change in the coming years, with ambitious proposals being laid out for three massive new buildings on the edge of the city centre.

Developers Glenbrook have stated their plans to build more than 400 apartments in two 'broadly rectangular' buildings.

The majority of the rental properties will be one and two-bedroom flats, although there will also be a handful of three-bedroom apartments and five townhouses too. Cafés, restaurants and bars will be built on the ground floor alongside a public square.

A separate application has been submitted for a 200-room hotel, which would sit next to the two apartment blocks.

It would be built in a similar design to the apartment blocks, but would sit slightly lower and only stretch as high as 19 storeys at its tallest point.

The proposals will be unveiled in greater detail at a meeting of Leeds City Council's Plans Panel on Thursday, November 21.
