Hotel boss fumes over 'hissy fit' Tripadvisor review 'that sets dangerous precedent'

Owners of a family-run restaurant have blasted TripAdvisor for publishing a "hissy fit" critique.

The Ferry Inn on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, condemned the review website after a customer complained they were unable to make a booking.

The establishment said it generally gets booked up months in advance, and the owner stated all the details are explained on its website, social media and signage outside.

The reviewer, who left a scathing two-star critique, wrote: "Not particularly great experience, no availability for booking, nearest restaurant to where we are staying.

"Seems to be a lack of places to eat in Skye.

"We are disappointed in local restaurants and their lack of availability for dinner bookings.

"Thus restaurants was on our list to visit but sadly could not accommodate till well into June, July."

But the eatery said the entire island of Skye tends to be increasingly busy throughout the summer until October time.

Sharing the review, the restaurant said: "Is this what it's come to TripAdvisor?

"What a dangerous precedent you're setting for small hospitality businesses - an absolute hissy fit 'review' because she couldn't book a table at our fully booked restaurant and this is deemed a valid 'experience' by yourselves?

"So now anyone who can't get a reservation with us is valid to leave us negative 'reviews'?

"Scary stuff if this is the road we're going down because Skye is rammed until October.

"We book up months in advance.

"We explain everything in detail on our website and social media and on our signage outside."

"We have four tables a nigh, we're a family of four running a small inn.

"We have no staff, we're not running a mass operation.

"To have had this woman now write two reviews slamming us and the whole of Skye for her lack of forward planning is ludicrous."

Many took to the replies of the tweet to share their support and express similar experiences with the review site.

The two reviews have now been removed from the site however it is not clear whether it was the review or TripAdvisor who took down the reviews.
