Hotel, bar and restaurant to be built at M5 Gloucester Services

A hotel is set to be built near the M5 motorway in Gloucestershire, less than an hour from Bristol.

Bosses at Gloucester Services have been granted planning permission for the 74-bedroom hotel.

It will be built on the southbound side of the motorway to the north of the existing service station car park, reports Gloucestershire Live.

Stroud District Council has granted planning permission for the new project.

Gloucester Services opened in 2014 and employs more than 400 people.

The hotel is expected to create 42 further jobs and it is estimated it will add £1million to the Gloucestershire economy each year.

According to planning documents, the hotel will be designed in a farmhouse and barns style and will include a restaurant and bar.

Bosses say the new restaurant will use local produce, like the products stocked at the existing farm shop at the service station.

The plans show there will also be a courtyard area with outdoor seating next to a pond.

Plans for the new hotel, bar and restaurant at Gloucester Services (Gloucester Services)

Plans for a 100-bedroom hotel had been previously submitted but following a public consultation the plans were reduced to a 74-bedroom hotel.

Rooms from the hotel will feature views towards Robinswood Hill, Painswick Beacon and the main service station area.

Owners the Westmorland family have added a hotel to their Tebay service station in Cumbria.

They hope the Gloucester hotel will 'encourage motorway users to rest during their journeys'.
