Hot water system warning after unit fire at Wallsend

FIREFIGHTERS have issued a reminder to have hot water systems serviced and maintained after a unit fire at Wallsend on Sunday.

Crews from Wallsend, Lambton and Cardiff stations were called to Raglan Street about 2.10pm after reports of a fire at the property.

Fire and Rescue NSW teams quickly rendered the property safe after discovering the system had failed, causing it to catch alight.

The unit suffered fire and water damage but no injuries were reported.

"It is ideal to have your hot water systems serviced at least once a year with a full check-up and maintenance done every five years," firefighters said in a statement.
