Hot tub heist sees man charged over alleged theft of 10 spas near Edinburgh

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged theft of hot-tubs from an Edinburgh business.

The 31-year-old was cuffed last night after The Record revealed how 10 spas had allegedly been taken on Friday evening.

The equipment, worth about £50,000, was reportedly stolen from the Advanced Hot Tubs and Swim Spas yard in Macmerry, near Tranent.

A neighbouring builders yard was also broken into at the time of the alleged incident.

Company boss Kevin Higginson issued a plea to help track down the spas on Twitter.

He confirmed that 10 of his best selling ‘Harris’ hot tubs were stolen in the alleged raid.

The six-person spas retail for just under £5,000 each and are equipped with dozens of jets, LED lighting and a bluetooth music system.

He told us: “The worst thing about this theft is that each one of the tubs had been sold and was about to be shipped to customers in time for Christmas.

“The sale of spas has been on the rise through the lockdown as they bring so much joy and so many benefits to people when they are stuck at home.
