Nov. 28--This year's Thanksgiving was toasty -- one of the warmest on record for Southern California. But forecasters say you can expect rain and cooler temperatures next week.
A large high pressure system over the state and a light offshore flow brought warm weather across Southern California on Thursday, said meteorologist Andrew Rorke of the National Weather Service.
Thanksgiving is normally about 70 degrees, making for pleasant holiday weather, he said.
But this year, temperatures were 20 degrees above average, breaking previous set records.
Temperatures reached 90 in Long Beach, breaking the 2011 record of 86.
A 1949 record temperature of 68 was broken in Sandberg, which is near Lancaster. It reached 73 degrees in Sandberg on Thursday.
In Burbank, temperatures hit 88 degrees -- two degrees higher than the 1980 record.
But forecasters say the heat wave was brief.
Cooler temperatures will sweep across the region Friday and Saturday as the upper ridge level weakens.
Low clouds and fog will move into Los Angeles and Ventura counties Sunday.
After a week of hot temperatures, Rorke said Southern California residents could expect rain on Tuesday.
