Warm light from spherical bamboo lanterns shines on the surface of a river running through the Kurokawa Onsen hot spring resort in Minamioguni, Kumamoto Prefecture. This event, "Yuakari ," has been organized by the local inn association and others since 2012. The toro lanterns were handmade by the owners of local inns and shops as well as volunteers who assist with community development. The illumination starts from sunset through 10 p.m. daily until April 5.
