Hot mics picked up Aaron Boone’s entire NSFW berating of an umpire

Whenever a manager argues with an umpire, there’s always the reasonable assumption that some unpleasant words are being exchanged.

We just rarely get to hear exactly what is being said.

That changed on Thursday.

During the Yankees’ game against the Rays, manager Aaron Boone took exception with the balls-and-strikes calls of home plate umpire Brennan Miller. And we heard all of it.

What started with Brett Gardner slamming his bat against the dugout roof turned into Miller and Boone exchanging words after Miller called strike on a clear ball outside.

Again, we heard everything: D.J. LeMahieu saying the ball was “so far outside.” Boone yelling, “(Expletive) terrible!” EVERYTHING. And ultimately, Boone was ejected. (Warning: NSFW language)

I’m never one to condone workplace bullying, but this entire sequence was fascinating.

It’s a part of the game that we only get to see and not hear. And now that we actually heard it, I sort of think baseball should have hot mics rolling at all times for every game. Air it on a secondary broadcast with a TV-MA rating. We need more of this.

That would be amazing.
