Hot-headed Airdrie man ordered to cool off by sheriff after run-in with "wind up" cops

AN Airdrie man who claims police officers “wind him up”  has been ordered by a sheriff to calm down.

Hot-headed David Lochrie, 32, became abusive when he was detained outside a property on Meadowside Place in Clarkston.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court, he admitted threatening or abusive behaviour on May 1.

Jacqueline Smyth, prosecuting, said officers went to the area after a complaint about a man and saw the accused on a communal landing.

She stated: “He was immediately hostile towards the officers as they tried to get details from him.

“He began to shout and swear, refusing to stop.”

Defence agent Luke O’Curry said Lochrie’s actions had cost him three nights in custody.

Mr O’Curry explained: “He had only been released from his last prison sentence the day before this.

“He spent the night in hospital with an unexplained head injury and had gone to see his mum when this incident happened.

“David Lochrie has underlying mental health issues, but is naturally suspicious of the police and somewhat hostile towards them.

“He takes the view that they know exactly who he is and are winding him up when they ask for his name, address and other details.”

Sheriff Thomas Millar deferred sentence on Lochrie until September 9 and ordered him to be of good behaviour.
