Hostel in Stokes Croft confirms two positive coronavirus cases

Ron Jones hostel in Stokes Croft has confirmed two residents have tested positive for Covid-19.

The first resident tested positive on October 22, and on November 5 another resident tested positive.

As these two positive cases arrived within 28 days of each other Public Health England classifies this as an outbreak.

But PHE said: “we have no reason to suspect there is any connection between the two cases, and we are not aware of any further positive tests since November 5.”

Rachel Pinchin, deputy chief executive at hostel operator Elim Housing, said: “In both cases, staff have worked with all relevant residents, including the residents who have tested positive and their immediate neighbours, to ensure that they have everything they need to effectively self-isolate for the necessary period of time.

“This has involved providing food and other essentials so that they do not need to leave their accommodation.

“At all times we have followed the protocols in place for supported housing in Bristol, working closely with Public Health, Bristol City Council and Test and Trace to minimise the risk of transmission.

“We recognise the additional challenges that the pandemic can present to people in housing need, and extend our thanks to the many agencies who are working hard to ensure the most vulnerable people in the city are supported through this period.

“The food distribution collective, Base and Roses, have kindly provided supplies for our residents, and we will be working with North Bristol Foodbank on an ongoing basis.”

Ron Jones House is part of Bristol’s homelessness pathway, and provides accommodation and support for 42 single men with experience or risk of homelessness.

From the beginning of the pandemic, Elim said they have ensured that residents have access to masks, sanitiser, cleaning equipment and guidance about how to minimise the risk of transmission of Covid-19.

They also have active risk management plans in place and these are being observed and reviewed on a regular basis.
