Pramote Pathan (Oat) is a successful host, DJ, singer and actor. But it’s been a difficult road to the top. He started out singing in clubs before featuring on the soundtracks to several movies and shows. Eventually, he made his showbiz breakthrough. But it wasn't singing that made him famous.
Oat actually gained fame as a host and DJ. His work on the YouTube show Paloy’s Diary and on EFM 104.5 won him many fans. After these successes, the star returned to making music. Earlier this year, he finally released his first solo single, “Muer Wan (Yesterday).” It was a big hit. Now, he’s back with his follow-up, the hip-hop single “Mee Fan Laew (She Has a Boyfriend),” featuring UrboyTJ.
S Weekly met up with Oat at White Music HQ where he told us about his new song, working in showbiz and his advice for young fans.

Why did you decide to work with UrboyTJ on “She Has a Boyfriend”?
Oat: We’re close friends. TJ always told me that he wanted to work with me. So when I decided to do a hip-hop song, I knew who to call.
The song’s about hitting on a girl who has a boyfriend. How does your girlfriend feel about it?
Oat: She thinks it’s cute. I like to hear her feedback on my songs because she isn’t a musician. She tells me how a listener would feel.
Do you find it easy to work as a host and DJ?
Oat: No. It can be quite hard. When I was very young, I was shy. But I liked to tease my friends so I learned to be quite sharp with jokes and comments. Later on, at university, I hosted several events. Those experiences taught me a lot.
What did you learn from singing in clubs?
Oat: I learned how to deal with all kinds of situations, from malfunctioning equipment to drunken customers. Once, a guy came onstage and took my microphone. I felt that he’d gone too far. So I punched him and security took him away.
How do you overcome your shyness?
Oat: The most important thing is to have fun. If I don’t enjoy what I’m doing, others won’t either. It all depends on me.

What was it like being a judge for the first time on La Banda Thailand?
Oat: It was great fun. I was very nervous beforehand because I was a replacement for Ma Ornapha. But I’m glad I went through with it. Seeing a new generation of passionate singers is inspiring.
You have a cheerful image. What do you do when you feel sad?
Oat: Actually, I often feel sad. I barely eat because of stress. But I have to separate my personal and professional lives. If I’m moody in front of the media, it might create problems in the future. My duty is to be an entertainer. I have to make others happy. It doesn’t matter how I feel. However, if I’m not working and I feel sad, I like to be by myself. I’ll watch TV or sleep or arrange my photos at home.
Do negative comments on social media affect you?
Oat: Yes, I’m quite sensitive. I can accept constructive criticism. But if there are any rude comments, especially about my family, I’ll ignore them.
What advice would you give to an aspiring host or DJ?
Oat: The main thing is to make it fun. Try new and interesting things. If you enjoy what you do, it means you’re on the right track.
