Ebara Hospital in Ota Ward, Tokyo, which is accepting patients suspected of having been infected with a new type of coronavirus, revealed its preparations to the press on Tuesday.
Among Japanese returning from Wuhan, China, on a government-chartered plan, anyone suspected of having pneumonia caused by the new type of coronavirus is being sent by ambulance to the hospital Wednesday.
Ebara Hospital has set up 11 beds in negative pressure rooms, which have lower atmospheric pressure to prevent air leaking out. After receiving patients through the emergency entrance, doctors dressed in protective clothing and masks will confirm patients' symptoms in a special examination room on the first floor, then patients will be transported to the negative pressure rooms for treatment. Fukumi Nakamura, chief of the internal medicine department for infectious diseases, said, "We want to respond appropriately to patients' symptoms."
The Tokyo metropolitan government has decided to transport patients to Ebara Hospital, Toshima Hospital, Tokyo Metropolitan Cancer and Infectious Diseases Center Komagome Hospital and Tokyo Metropolitan Bokuto Hospital. A total of approximately 50 beds that can be used to treat infectious diseases have been secured at the four hospitals, including in negative pressure rooms.
