A hospital ward has been closed due to a cluster of coronavirus cases.
A ward at Maesteg Hospital in Bridgend has been closed after a small cluster of coronavirus cases - less than five - were identified, according to the latest figures released by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.
There are also cases of coronavirus at three other hospitals run by the same health board:
- Royal Glamorgan Hospital (135 cases and 25 deaths linked to Covid-19)
- Prince Charles Hospital (18 cases and 4 deaths linked to Covid-19)
- Princess of Wales Hospital (16 cases and 1 death linked to Covid-19)
The health board's medical director Dr Nick Lyons said staff are working with Public Health Wales to "closely monitor" Covid-19 cases at its hospitals and apologised to families and the wider community.
He also thanked staff for working "incredibly hard" to tackle the issue and said "immediate measures to contain the spread of the virus have been put in place".
He added: “We are taking this extremely seriously and the stringent and robust mitigating actions which have been taken across our sites are being closely observed. However given the nature of coronavirus, there is an inevitable time delay in when we will see the positive impact of these measures.
“Infection rates also continue to rise in our communities and we are appealing to all members of the public to take seriously their responsibilities by ensuring their behaviour does not contribute to the further spread of Covid-19. We remain grateful to all members of our community who are continuing to adhere to the guidance in order to help control this virus.”
