Hospital closes public canteen after 'pest' infestation discovered

A canteen at a Belfast hospital has been closed due to a “pest” infestation.

Belfast Trust says it is working to resolve the issue at the public restaurant at Northern Ireland's Musgrave Hospital.

There are unconfirmed reports that rats have been found at the facility. Sources have also suggested the issue may have arisen due to building work in the area, however this has not been confirmed.

In a statement, the Trust said they have “identified and swiftly resolved a pest control issue at Musgrave Park Hospital, confined to a public restaurant,” reports Belfast Live .

They added: “Pest control measures identified the issue quickly and the restaurant was closed. Belfast Trust worked closely with environmental health officers and the restaurant will reopen on June 18.

“We remain confident we have robust arrangements in place to deal effectively with any such incidents which may occur from time to time. At no time were the catering services provided to patients in any way affected.”
