Hosepipe row leads to court fine after neighbour is accidentally soaked

A man lost his cool after a neighbour in Ashgill accidentally soaked him with water from a hosepipe.

The incident led to Christopher Connor being fined £300 at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

Connor, 25, admitted threatening or abusive behaviour towards George Walker in Bogside Road on Sunday, May 3.

He was on bail for other matters at the time.

The court heard Connor was living with his brother in the street.

Jacqueline Smyth, prosecuting, said: “This happened in the afternoon.

“Mr Walker, who’s 69, was washing his car when Connor approached and said he would do the job for £10.

“The offer was declined and Connor began to shout that Mr Walker had soaked him with the hose.

“His neighbour said it was an accident and that Connor had been standing too close to him.

“Mr Walker’s wife was in her house and heard raised voices.

“She saw Connor was shouting and being aggressive towards her husband. A neighbour also heard the accused shouting and swearing, and the police were called.”

Defence agent Ian Scott said his client, who admitted previous convictions, wanted to apologise for his behaviour.

The solicitor added: “By his own admission, he has a quick temper and didn’t see the funny side of it.”

Connor, who appeared from custody, is now moving from the street to Glen Avenue, Larkhall.

Imposing a fine of £300, Sheriff Liam Murphy told the accused: “That is reduced from £450 because you have pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.”
