Hosepipe ban Dublin: Aldi Ireland forced to stop sale of highly anticipated summer item as six week water limit hits

Aldi Ireland have been forced to stop the sale of a highly anticipated summer item this week as the hosepipe ban hits Dublin today for the next six weeks.

The Irish retailer informed the public over their social media pages that they would no longer be selling the 'special paddling pool summer buy' in a bid to help conserve water in the capital.

This comes after it was confirmed that over the next six weeks, people will be limited in how they can use water in Dublin.

Irish Water announced the ban or 'National Water Conservation Order' on Monday which will remain in place from Tuesday 9 June until midnight on Tuesday 21 July.

Speaking about pulling the special buy, Aldi Ireland said on Twitter: "Due to a nationwide hosepipe ban, we’ve decided to cancel this week’s paddling pool special buy.

They added: "Let’s all do our bit to conserve water during this time."

John Curtin, Group Buying Director, Aldi Ireland said: “We understand that some customers may be disappointed, but conserving water usage at this time is a priority for our customers, so we need to support this national water restriction also so that everyone can play a part in helping to conserve water.”

The public is being advised to do the following activities using rainwater instead as using water drawn through a hosepipe for the following is as of today, banned:

  • Watering your garden
  • Cleaning your car, motorbike, or van or boat
  • Filling or cleaning a garden swimming or paddling pool – hence Aldi's reason to pull their special buy
  • Filling or maintaining a fountain or domestic pond – (this excludes fish ponds)
  • Filling or replenishing an artificial pond, lake or a similar body of water.
