Horticulture waste adds to residents’ woes amidst water crisis in Noida

NOIDA: Apart from the unrelieved water supply issues, residents of several sectors across Noida and Greater Noida have also complained of piles of branches and leaves that have been left neglected by the roadside for days after the pruning of trees.

The president of Noida’s Sector 122 Resident Welfare Association (RWA), Umesh Sharma said that only 30% of the pruning work has happened till now whereas the work had started in July this year.

"Workers from the horticulture department come only once or twice a week and the horticulture waste remains for a week in the sector. This is gross negligence on the part of the Authority officials,” said Sharma.

Another resident of Sector 73 also complained of a sector park not being maintained well, adding that there is also a lack of toilet upkeep and water supply in the park.

The water supply is still at an all-time hiatus in various sectors. “Even today there was no supply in our sector. There is no reprieve from water troubles. It is a matter of great shame that in a glittering city like Greater Noida, people are wandering for water. The contractor also pays no heed to complaints,” said Aditya Bhati, RWA president of Sector P3, in Greater Noida.

Residents of Sector 3 in Greater Noida West and Delta 1 in Greater Noida also shared the same frustration. While Sanjeev Dedha from Sector 3 complained of no water supply since Thursday and Friday, Narendra Tyagi, another resident of the sector, added that the supply is full of sand.

Sandeep Sagar, technical supervisor of the water department at GNIDA, told TOI that there was a leakage in the inlet pipeline of the overhead tank in block A of Sector 3. “Leakage repair work was done on Friday. In the meantime, water supply is being channelled through tube wells,” said Sagar.

Officials from the Authority assured to address the issues raised by the residents.
