Since the first toy was launched at the beginning of the ‘80s, girls all around the world have been in love with My Little Pony. Since 2010, the animated series has introduced the characters to a whole new generation of fans. Now the adorable and colourful friends are making their way to the big screen.

My Little Pony: The Movie is a magical new adventure about the value of friendship. Princess Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Rarity must team up to save their home – the kingdom of Equestria. And despite being mainly a film for girls, the clever script and impressive animation provide entertainment for the whole family.

The Thai version features the voice of singer, model and actress Sirapassara Sintrakarnphol (Pam). S Weekly caught up with her to talk about the movie.

How did you become involved in the project?

Pam: I knew for a while that a movie version of My Little Pony was coming out, and I was looking forward to seeing it in the cinema. Then I was contacted by the film company to see if I wanted to be part of the voice cast. I said yes right away because I’ve wanted to do voice acting for a long time.

Can you tell us a bit about your character?

Pam: I provide the voice for a brand new character called Songbird Serenade. In the US version, she’s voiced by Australian singer Sia and the character is based on Sia’s stage persona. Songbird Serenade is the biggest star in all of Equestria. She uses her angelic voice and performing skills to celebrate the magic of friendship.

How much were you aware of My Little Pony before taking the job?

Pam: I’m a big fan of the toys. I discovered them for the first time around four years ago when I saw them on sale at CentralWorld. I fell in love with their beautiful colours and designs right away. I’ve been collecting them ever since.

Who are your favourite My Little Pony characters?

Pam: There are two that I particularly like. The first is Princess Twilight Sparkle. She’s a purple unicorn with magic powers. The other one is Fluttershy, a flying horse. As her name suggests, she’s very shy. They’re both major characters in the film.

My Little Pony is mainly popular with girls. Will boys also enjoy the movie?

Pam: Yeah, I think so. Girls tend to prefer ponies, but there’s more to the story than just watching cute horses. There’s lots of adventure, action and humour. So hopefully boys will like it too. It’s a bit like watching The Powerpuff Girls.

How was your first experience of doing voice acting work?

Pam: It was quite challenging. I’d done nothing like it before. Putting your voice to something that’s already been animated and making it sound realistic is very tricky. I felt a lot of pressure. Plus, my character is a famous celebrity, so she doesn’t talk like the other characters. She’s a bit more pretentious. So it took a while for me to get the hang of it.

Are you planning to release any new music with your group GAIA?

Pam: With the band, there’s nothing in the pipeline. But I hope to release a solo single sometime soon. I can’t talk much about the project at the moment, but I think it will be a soul and R&B tune.
