Horseshoe worn by Frankel to fetch up to £20k at auction in Edinburgh

A shoe worn by wonderhorse Frankel is expected to fetch up to £20,000 at auction in Edinburgh this week.

The size seven “racing plate” was worn by the thoroughbred in winning the Royal Lodge Stakes at Ascot in 2010.

It was gifted by the late Aberdeen-born trainer Sir Henry Cecil to the of another , along with a letter saying “I hope that you enjoy having it”.

The shoe – worn on one of Frankel’s front hooves – will be among the highlights of ’ Sporting Sale on October 31 when it is estimated to make £15,000-£20,000.

It comes together with the signed note and one of Frankel’s training shoes, Frankel – owned by Prince Khalid Abdullah – was unbeaten in his 14-race career and was dubbed “the world’s greatest racehorse”, earning nearly £3million in prize money.

He is now retired to stud at and charges £175,000 a time stud fee. It is estimated he is now worth £100million.
