Horses spotted trying to get into self storage unit on Newport Road, Cardiff

A group of horses were spotted trying to get into a self storage unit on a busy Cardiff road.

The animals were seen by motorists on Newport Road on Friday morning.

South Wales Police said they were alerted to a number of horses roaming loose in the area at around 10.15am.

They were reported to be roaming between Tweedsmuir and Pengam roads before heading towards the busy Newport Road area.

A spokeswoman said that around five horses had been reported at the Burger King and KFC on the main route in and out of the city.

Officers were sent to the area to make sure the animals didn't cause any problems for motorists in the area.

She added: "We are keeping the horses in the car park until the highways team comes with a lorry to take them away.

"The main priority has been to make sure the horses don't stray onto the busy carriageway and cause a danger to road users."
