Here’s one McDonald’s customer who was, quite literally, as hungry as a horse.
The animal, pulling a trap, was guided into the fast food restaurant after its driver apparently became fed up waiting in a queue at the outlet’s drive-through.
The incident at the Two Rivers Shopping Centre in Staines went viral on social media, after a bystander recorded it on his mobile phone and posted it online.
The unidentified horseman can be heard shouting into the restaurant: “He wants a double cheeseburger. Check his mouth, his card’s in there. It’s contactless.”
When staff refuse to serve the animal, it offered a most undignified protest – leaving a dollop of manure before trotting off.
The man who filmed the unlikely scene said: “It was funny. It’s once in a lifetime seeing a horse go into McDonald’s.”
The 26-year-old, who did not give his name, added: “I’m a cabbie and was waiting for customers when I saw the pony and trap pull up. I saw them trying to get into the drive-thru, but it was busy so they went to the main door.”
But restaurant manager Manir Mohammed was decidedly less amused by the whole incident.
“Everyone was shocked,” he told the Surrey Live website. “People were calling the guys ‘idiots’ and lots of people were taking pictures and videos.
“I was really shocked. It is the first time I have been so close to a horse and I did not know what to do, but luckily they backed out before they could bring the horse into the restaurant.”
It is not the first time the animals have been seen using the drive-by facility in this way.
Reports from Llanelli, in Wales, suggest the McDonalds branch there regularly serves horse and trap drivers after a large number of travellers settled close to the town.
