Horse rescued in North Dublin 'set alight' by callous thugs

A horse who has been rescued in North Dublin appears to have been "set alight" by callous thugs.

And the DSPCA have urged anyone with information about the shocking incident to come forward after the terrible discovery was made today in Darndale.

The poor horse's face and neck are visibly damaged with sickening burn marks, with damage also done to his mane and eyelashes by the heartless bullies.

The young stallion has thankfully been checked over by vets and is now at the DSPCA Rescue Centre.

The charity have confirmed the incident is under investigation by Gardai and appealed for anyone who knows anything about the unfortunate horse to present themselves.

A DSPCA spokesperson told Dublin Live: "Today DSPCA Inspectors assisted the Gardai in the rescue of a horse from North County Dublin.

"The horse, a young stallion, was found to be in poor condition with injuries consistent with being 'set alight'.

"He was moved to the DSPCA Rescue Centre and has been examined by the veterinary team.

"He is suffering from burns on his face and neck with a burnt mane and eye lashes.

"The case is under investigation by the Gardai in Coolock Station and the DSPCA.

"Anyone with information should contact Coolock Garda Station 01 6664200 or email  inspectors@dspca.ie."

Gardai confirmed to Dublin Live that no arrests have yet been made.

They said: "Gardai are investigating an incident of animal cruelty involving a horse that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday 21st July 2020 at Darndale, Coolock.

"The DSPCA attended the scene and took the horse in to its care for treatment.

"No arrests have been made at this time. Investigations are ongoing."
