HORSE rescued from Bridgewater Canal as fire crews attend scene

A horse was rescued from a canal on Sunday afternoon (May 28) after fire crews rushed to the scene near Astley.

The animal had reportedly ended up in the water in the Bridgewater Canal, close to Higher Green Lane, shortly before 4pm and needed to be rescued by specialist crews.

A number of fire engines, including water incident and technical response units, were pictured at the scene as lines and a natural ramp were used to help the horse to safety. Emergency services were at the scene for around two hours, it was confirmed.
