Horse racing tips: Friday picks for Wolverhampton and Lingfield meets

Check out Standard Sport's latest horse racing tips ahead of a busy afternoon of action on Friday, January 26....

Friday 16:20 Lingfield - The Conqueror (5-2)

This German gelding has benefitted from a handicap mark which has dropped significantly in the past year. He took full advantage of that to win just before Christmas at the same course and distance, plus came fourth on January 4 after making late headway.

Carrying the same handicap mark as last time out and with apprentice jockey Ethan Jones again on board, savvy trainer Jim Boyle should be able to squeeze another victory at a track at which his horse is seemingly becoming a specialist.

Friday 17:45 Wolverhampton – Landlordtothestars (6-4)

This horse has been in tremendous form of late, with two wins in its past four runs, and was only just beaten by a head on its last run, at Lingfield on January 15, by Inverlochy, who has been in great form with three wins in the past three months.

After that second place, his handicap rating remains the same for this outing at Wolverhampton, where he won on December 5. Another plus is that he is reunited with Joe Leavy, who rode him to victory at Southwell on January 6, so he should be primed to continue his good form.

Friday 19:15 Wolverhampton - Isle of Wolves (6-1)

This horse has not won for quite a while, in fact you have to go back to 2019 for its last success, but it has been knocking on the door as of late with two very good seconds, at Wolverhampton on December 30 and Newcastle on January 8.

Cam Hardie was on board on both occasions and is back in the saddle today. The form of its last run was strong, beating Carlton into third place and Explorers Way in fourth, both of which have gone on to win their next races.

20:15 Wolverhampton - Eloped (7-2)

This four-year-old filly came a distant third last time at Wolverhampton at the end of December in a race which Palace Boy dominated.

Handicap mark has now been dropped and is wearing cheekpieces for this race, and if they bring even the slightest improvement this could be enough to cause a surprise win.
